bike-in-the-rain to work day

major props to all the newbies who were out on the DC streets this morning! it was a terrible day for a first ride to work: rain, traffic, especially surly cabs (probably due to the higher bike volume).

it was so un-fun that i didn’t even pick up my free donut at freedom plaza. i just rode straight to the office and, despite my raincoat, was totally soaked when i arrived.

one of the best things about biking to work is walking cheerily through the security check-point, saying hi to folks in the elevator, then finally arriving at the mirror in the 8th floor women’s restroom and seeing the state your hair’s been in for the last 10 minutes. it’s awesome. sometimes helmet-ribbed, sometimes creatively spiked. the best is when you have mud on your lip and nobody mentions it.

biker or not, for your rainy friday listlessness, i have to plug the new Black Box film at the Hirshhorn: Kimsooja’s “A Laundry Woman, Yamuna River, Delhi.” absolutely gorgeous: the kind of cleansing meditation that will revive you for the afternoon. if you’re currently languishing in a L’Enfant Plaza federal building, i highly recommend that you duck out over your lunch hour and see it.

  • L. so, i love that you do things like bike in the rain.

we met a missionary couple the other day, and the gal looked *SO* much like a bramon that I almost asked her if she was any relation. We are talking, insanely identical looking. She was a perfect harmony of your mom and dad, thus a YOU!

i miss you…hope you are feeling on the brighter side these days.

    warmly,
    lace
