for your monday morning entertaininment, courtesy of father andrew: royal de luxe’s little girl giant. like other YouTube viewers, i can’t decide if she is beautiful or frightening. either way, she is mesmerizing, and the sight of the red-coated puppeteers ferrying and following her makes for a touching object lesson on our collective fascination with the body — and the soul hidden inside.

I thought that she was not frightening but sad. For me there is always a tinge of sadness when we approximate life, possibly because we realize how much of a wonder we really are. Of course I found her very ascetically and technically interesting and would have loved to have seen her in person.
